美国辉瑞制药(Pfizer)出于安全方面的考虑，放弃了其最重要的在研药物，此举令这家全球最大制药商的形象受损，并危及其财务前景。

胆固醇类药物——Torcetrapib目前已处于后期试验阶段。它的失败给辉瑞制药2010年以后的财务前景笼罩上一层阴云，并可能使该集团股票面临压力。

该公司目前最畅销的药物名为立普妥(Lipitor)，其专利权即将于2010年到期。因此，在确保其胆固醇类药物的市场地位方面，辉瑞曾希望 Torcetrapib能配合立普妥，发挥关键作用。Torcetrapib能提高被称为“好胆固醇”的高密度脂蛋白(HDL)，立普妥则可降低坏胆固醇 ——低密度脂蛋白(LDL)。

Pfizer has scrapped its most important pipeline drug due to safety concerns, damaging the image of the world's largest drugmaker and throwing its outlook into jeopardy.

The failure of torcetrapib, a late-stage experimental cholesterol drug, clouds Pfizer's financial outlook from 2010, and is likely to put pressure on the group's shares today.

Torcetrapib which raises HDL – so-called good cholesterol – was to play a key role in securing Pfizer's cholesterol drug franchise by combining it with its biggest selling drug Lipitor, which lowers bad cholesterol or LDL, after its patent expires as early as 2010.
